About This Chatbot
To integrate an ethical AI companion into my CalmMind project, I used Botpress as the chatbot platform. I trained the AI using a custom knowledge base that included safety-focused response guidelines, real-world mental health resources, and practical self-care tips. I defined the chatbot's personality to be warm, honest, and supportive — always reminding users it is not a therapist and cannot provide medical advice. Using Botpress's visual interface, I shaped how the bot responds to sensitive topics, added FAQs to guide user expectations, and embedded the final chatbot into my website using the generated script. This allowed the AI to sit safely within the CalmMind design, while following ethical standards and emotional tone established through my research.
Why Ethical AIs Are Important
Ethical AIs are important because they help protect people — especially vulnerable users — from harm, misinformation, and emotional manipulation. Without clear boundaries, AI tools can easily overstep and pretend to understand things they don't, give unsafe advice, or create false emotional trust. This is especially risky in mental health spaces, where users might be struggling and looking for real support. Ethical AI design means setting limits on what the AI can say, making sure it's honest about what it is (and isn't), and guiding users toward real human help when needed. It also helps build trust, reduce bias, and make sure the AI stays respectful, inclusive, and responsible — not just smart or helpful. For young people growing up with this technology, those safeguards are essential.
